The Howe Yoon Chong PSA Endowment Fund was set up to honour the late Mr Howe Yoon Chong, a visionary Singaporean who had made significant contributions to Singapore, including the building of Singapore’s first container terminal.
Mr Howe was the Chairman of PSA, the then Port of Singapore Authority from 1970 to 1979. Under his astute leadership, Mr Howe transformed the port and laid the foundation for PSA’s growth into the world’s largest container port today. Mr Howe was a simple and frugal man who was always compassionate towards the needy. To honour him, PSA has set up a $15 million endowment fund, with contributions from PSA and Temasek Holdings, to award bond free scholarships to Singapore citizens.
